A CITIZEN’S PERSPECTIVE ON H.R. 2585

As a Turkish citizen, I am following H.R. 2585, the Armenian Genocide Education Act, with serious concern.

The bill remains before the U.S. House of Representatives and would support educational materials, teacher training, and resources about the events of 1915–1923. It will cost $10 million to taxpayers.

I believe every innocent life lost during this tragic period deserves remembrance and respect. But history should be taught with full context, open scholarship, and facts—not myths, propaganda, or politically imposed conclusions.

For me, this is not about denying suffering. It is about whether legislation should determine how complex and disputed historical questions are taught to future generations.

History should be studied seriously, openly, and in its full context.
