Thanks to BBC for sharing Ergun Kirlikovali’s thoughts on this matter. This is what an unbiased journalism looks like.

Turkish-American engineer and researcher-writer Ergun Kirlikovaly wrote an open letter to famous risk analyst Nassim Taleb who said that he will not set foot in Azerbaijan because of Ruben Vardanyan, who is imprisoned in Azerbaijan.

Ergun Kirlikovali wrote in his letter that Ruben Vardanya’s sudden arrival to Karabakh “directly violated local stability”.

“To evaluate the path that Vardanya passed as a humanitarian mission means to become a victim of the “blind spots” that you warned in your writings”, Ergun Kirlikovaly wrote in his letter.

According to Ergun Kirlikovali, Nassib Taleb’s public position demonstrates a serious lack of historical empathy towards the victims of this conflict.

Ergun Kirlikovaly’s demanded to be more critical to the issue, to investigate the allegations related to Vardanya’s activity and reevaluate his position.

Nassim Taleb’s reaction to this open letter is not yet clear.

Talib has spoken openly in defense of Vardanya in recent years and called Vardanya “my friend” in a post in December 2023.

Vardanyan was detained in Lachin in September 2023. The former minister of state of the unknown “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic”, who abolished himself, Russian billionaire Ruben Vardanyan, was arrested for 20 years in Azerbaijan in February of this year. Vardanyan was found guilty of crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, terrorism and other serious crimes. He’s not accepting the charges.

Lebanese-born American risk analyst, statistician and writer Nassim Taleb wrote that he was invited to Azerbaijan to give a lecture.
